WELCOME TO THE HOME OF SHIBA INUS
A GENERAL OVERVIEW OF OUR KENNEL
Hello I am James Watson Owner and Manager of Home of Shiba Inus and I have been breeding , raising and researching on Shiba Inu Puppies for over 15 years now. I currently breed and raise Shiba Inu Puppies in my Home with the help of my wife and 3 kids. They basically help raise them, and also with customer service, but I am fully responsible for the selection, crossing and breeding process.
My approach to breeding is concerned mainly with raising Shibas with overall robust health and sound temperaments. I do this by adhering closely to the breed standard, carefully screening prospects for health, temperament and conformation excellence. Breed type is important because it defines how a dog is designed to function best in everyday life. Shibas were originally bred as independent hunting dogs, leading hunters to prey. This requires reliable, independent intelligence, and the physical stamina to run up and down mountainous terrain all day.
I have studied Shiba Inu pedigrees extensively and have observed the breed firsthand over the past 17 years to develop my breeding program. I consider myself a breed specialist, rather than a breeder because my goal is to produce a few very good dogs of this venerable breed, rather than recklessly increasing the already burgeoning canine population that is currently filling the kill shelters around the world.
Preserving the essence of the breed is my passion. As an active member of the NSCA, AKC, and California BSA, a Japanese Nippo club, I show only the dogs I consider to be the best examples of the breed. Showing is very expensive and time consuming, but because I have used these experiences as investments in increasing my overall knowledge of the breed, I’ve been able to demonstrate this knowledge on an international level. I also do extensive DNA and health testing to promote healthy and happy puppies with each breeding.
I carefully screen my pet homes, and do not sell my dogs for breeding purposes. I raise my litters in my home, and spend every day house training and conditioning the puppies to adapt easily to their new homes. They are socialized extensively inside and outside of my home, going on car trips and being introduced to new people, new experiences and other animals. If for ANY reason an owner cannot keep their puppy or adult dog, it is required that the dog be returned to Home of Shiba Inu Home.
WHY WE LOVE SHIBA INUS, AND WHY YOU SHOULD GET ONE
My enduring love for the Shiba Inu was born at first sight, and has only grown stronger over the last 17 years. Their big dog attitude, intelligence and energy contained in their compact size make them ideal companions for an active lifestyle of hiking, running and traveling. Their clean lines, fox like, natural beauty, richly colored coats and signature Shiba smile are constantly charming. Their sunny nature lifts my spirits when they greet me carrying a favorite toy, and their independent intelligence challenges me to work with them taking advantage of their versatility and loyalty to create a strong companion relationship.
